Regular descaling is essential to maintain your Morphy Richards Manual Compact Espresso Machine.
It keeps your coffee tasting great, ensures proper steam pressure, and prevents blockages in the system.
When to Descale
- When all lights flash 5 times at start-up (descale reminder)
- If coffee flow slows or espresso is weak
- Every 2–3 months in hard water areas, even if no warning lights appear
Step-by-Step Descaling Instructions
- Descaler (it is recommended citric acid and please follow instructions on the bottle)
- Clean jug or bowl
- Access to a sink
1, Prepare the Machine
Turn the machine off and unplug it.
Allow the machine to cool completely.
Remove the water tank and empty any remaining water.
2, Add Descaler Solution
Dissolve descaler according to the instructions.
Fill the water tank to the MAX line with the solution.
Re-fit the water tank securely on the machine.
3, Start the Descaling Cycle
Plug the machine back in and press the on/standby button.
Wait for the one cup and two cup buttons (2/3) to illuminate solidly.
Place a large jug or bowl under the drip tray to collect descaling water.
Press the two cup button (3) to dispense hot water into the jug/bowl.
Repeat this step 3–4 times, emptying the jug when full.
4, Clean the Steam Wand
Place the steam wand into a jug or bowl.
Slowly turn the steam control dial to release descaling solution through the wand.
Continue until the water tank is empty.
Empty the jug/bowl as needed during the process.
5, Rinse Thoroughly
Refill the water tank with clean water to the MAX line.
Repeat steps 3–4 to flush out any remaining descaler.
Repeat at least twice to ensure all descaler is removed.
Thorough rinsing is crucial for safe coffee preparation and taste quality.
6, Reset the Descale Reminder
After descaling is complete, simultaneously press and hold the one cup, two cup, and steam buttons for 3 seconds.
The flashing lights will stop, and your machine is ready for use.
